A Dancing Baby Wipe

Baby Wipes as a Focal Image in you Journal with Carolyn Dube INSERT LESSON LINKS IN WRITING BELOW- also need photo fo final page!

I save the colorful painty paper towels, baby wipes, and bits of scrap fabrics that I used for cleaning off a paintbrush or wiping off my hands.  Sometimes, like in this lesson, those scraps become an important element in an art journal page.

There are 3 main elements for my art journal pages.

  1.  a background -the colors, the patterns, art supply play and exploration
  2. meaning/story/words-  a word, some journaling, a feeling I am trying to capture, a story
  3. focal image- the thing that draws the eye – can be large or small

This is very handy for me when deciding where to start.

  • If I have a story already in mind then I start with meaning.  In lesson _____, it all started with the idea of me processing the feelings from watching the news.
  • If I have a focal image in mind, then I start there.  In this lesson, you’ll see how I started with a painty baby wipe as the focal image.
  • I tend to start with a background whenever I don’t have the meaning/story or a focal image when I start.  Along the way, as I play, meaning and a focal image tend to appear as the layers build up just as it did in the REPORT CARD LESSON.

Messy stenciling can create variation.  Since I am using the words here as a background builder and not using them to actually be read, then the darker messier areas make then stand out more in comparison to the neatly stenciled letters.

Use the shapes that are on the page to guide you as you build up the layers such as by filling in the shapes of the stamped images with color.
